A word of cheer will sometimes lift
A sufferer from despair,
A smile is often Heaven’s gift,
That gives us strength to bear.

Like ointment to the broken heart.
A friendly clasp of hand,
To light the load we lift a part
The spark of life is fanned.

When so much good can come so cheap
Why save a word, a smile,
Let us encourage those who weep
It surely is worthwhile.

The money surely has it’s place,
Good homes and earthy store;
The light that comes from friendly face
May help the downcast more.
